It was my pleasure to be in the audience today for President Barack Obama’s speech about the ConnectED initiative at Buck Lodge Middle School In Maryland. I found myself thinking back to a speech I attended by then-Senator Barack Obama in 2005, where he credited libraries with helping him land his first job as a community organizer. “More than a building that houses books and data, the library represents a window to a larger world, the place where we’ve always come to discover big ideas and profound concepts that help move the American story forward,” he said. “At the moment that we persuade a child, any child to cross that threshold into a library, we change their lives forever, for the better.”
