July 21, 1899: Ernest Hemingway is Born
On this day in 1899, Ernest Hemingway was born in Cicero, Illinois. Hemingway was well-known for the novels, The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms, and For Whom the Bell Tolls. In 1953, he was awarded the 1953 Pulitzer Prize for his novel The Old Man and the Sea. One year later, in 1954 Hemingway also won the Nobel Prize in literature.
His many accomplishments earned him the title of one of the great American novelist of the 20th century.
