November Infobytes

So let’s start with a fun one!

Looking for a video on conjugating Spanish verbs that the kids will enjoy? How about a Justin Timberlake parody about conjugation? Done by a pair of Spanish teachers, this is informative and fun!

Here is a link to an eye-opening video that shows the nuclear tests around the world from 1945 through 1998. I was amazed. I think you might be too.

Interested in an online hosting site for your classroom? While DPS has a few Moodle accounts,  Google offers a myriad of Apps for educators that your friendly librarian has attended a couple of Google-sponsored workshops and can help you get set up.

Another option that is being used by a number of DPS teachers at East and Munroe elem. is EDMOTO, an online virtual classroom site that is easy to use and includes phone apps for students. There’s a high student engagement factor; as I was watching a demonstration by one of our DEA teachers, six kids updated their comments at 6 pm! If you are interested in learning more, Noah Geisel is teaching a class on Edmoto this spring at Del Pueblo. You can register for this DEA class through Lawson.

A great online resource is the Online Chem Lab, which offers 3-D models, an interactive periodic table, and even a chemistry-based mahjongg game.

Don’t forget TJ’s super-smart Knit-Lit Crew. We have a few reviews of new books up on the Well-Read Spartans blog  and we plan to have many more by Ms. Sonheim’s class posted before winter break. These are all new titles and the Tattered Cover is using the teens’ reviews for selection purposes and has requested the option to print well-written reviews for display in the store.  Visit the blog here:
